Íæż½ã½ã Physics Department to Host Colloquium on Nanoflare Heating

Understanding the heating of the non-flaring solar corona is an active topic of research in heliophysics. The Íæż½ã½ã Physics Department will host a colloquium, Nanoflare Heating in Coronal X-ray Bright Points, featuring Dr. Biswajit Monda, PhD, of Marshall Space Flight Center in Hunstville, Alabama, as he discusses coronal mass ejections from the sun, and how they impact the earth.

Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program
Location: Mary and John Gray Library, 1st Floor
Íæż½ã½ã provides loaner laptops to Íæż½ã½ã students as a courtesy and at no charge. Laptops are available for both short-term checkouts (up to three days) and long-term checkouts (up to eight weeks). You must be a current student at Íæż½ã½ã to be eligible for this program.
For more information, visit the Information Technology (I.T.) Service Desk on the 1st floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. You will need to present your Íæż½ã½ã Student Cardinal One card. No other forms of identification will be accepted. Laptops are available on a “first come, first served” basis.

Call for Proposals for Undergraduate Research

The Office of Undergraduate Research is seeking proposals from undergraduate students in all areas of discipline at Íæż½ã½ã. Recipients will receive up to $2,000 in research funds and the opportunity to present their research at EXPO 2024. Submissions will be accepted until November 15.

Center for Resiliency Launches New SmartStorm Initiative
The Íæż½ã½ã Center for Resiliency has launched a new distance learning portal, , that will provide useful and critical information for preparing for and coping with the effects of hurricanes, floods and damaging weather. Three courses will be available with certificates and a disaster preparedness backpack, while supplies last.

Submit to Pulse, Íæż½ã½ã's Student Literary Magazine
Deadline: Friday, Dec. 15, 12:00 a.m.
Submissions will be open from October 15 to December 15 for Pulse magazine. Submission categories include: poetry, short fiction, scholarly essays, creative nonfiction, poetry in translation, and art. Submissions are open to all students, regardless of major. $100 prizes will be given for each category. A publication release party and reading event will be held in May of 2024.

State of Texas Seeking Non-Voting Student Representatives to TSUS Board of Regents & THECB

Each year, the State of Texas seeks applicants for non-voting student representatives to the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Students selected for these positions play an important part in representing the students of each Texas public university.
Applicants must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, be able to attend required TSUS or THECB meetings, and have a strong drive and self-motivation to contribute to the progress of higher education in Texas. Applications must be printed out and submitted no later than Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. to the Office of the President, Reaud Building, Room 321.
