World Mental Health Day Event

The Office of Strategic Initiatives is hosting a World Mental Health Day event. The purpose is to raise awareness about mental health issues, reducing stigma, and promoting mental well-being. There will be information provided by Íæż½ã½ã student organizations and community-based organizations.

Turtle on a Post: Memoirs of Carl Parker with Jim Sanderson

Date: Thursday, Oct. 10, 6 - 7 p.m.
Location: Tyrrell Historical Library (695, Pearl Street, Beaumont)

Íæż½ã½ã Writer-in-Residence Dr. Jim Sanderson will talk about his work with Carl Parker in writing his memoirs Turtle on a Post. Parker (1934-2024) was born in Port Arthur and served 33 years (1962-1995) in the Texas Legislature. Sanderson is an award-winning author of eight novels and he is also a creative writing teacher. Settling St. Malo with Randy Gonzales

Dr. Randy Gonzales (LSU-Lafayette) will read sections of his poetry and talk about the history and culture of the Filipino American community at St. Malo, Louisiana. His poetry collection Settling St. Malo won the 2024 Summerlee Book Prize from the Center for History and Culture.

Walk Like MADD 5k

The 2024 Walk Like MADD Beaumont event is MADD's signature fundraising event to help us raise both awareness and funds to eliminate drunk and drugged driving. Register and donate today to help us save more lives. Fire Truck Pull will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Cardinal Closet Now Accepting Donations

We're accepting shirts, shoes, pants, dresses, coats, ties, and more for the Cardinal Closet. Any donated undergarments (socks, bras, underwear) must be new and in packaging, or with tags. Donation drop-off times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through Oct. 31, 2024. Drop-offs can be made at the Wesley Center, behind the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall.

The Student Health Center has for students in need. The packs contain personal hygiene items like toothbrush and toothpaste, hair brush and comb, deodorant, face wash, shampoo, and more. If you'd like to keep a few wellness packs on hand, let us know. We're happy to help.

2025 David J. Beck Fellowship/Scholarship

The 2025 David J. Beck Fellowship includes up to $10,000 in funding for a summer project (summer 2025).  These are full academic scholarships covering all tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board. Fall 2025-Spring 2026 applications can be found in myScholarship.

Deadline: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 6 p.m.

KVÍæż½ã½ã's fall giving campaign begins Oct. 15 this year. Give any amount now through October 22 at 6 p.m. to qualify for automatic entry into the fall giveaway: an FM digital radio/CD player with internet and Bluetooth capabilities. The winner will be announced live on the air October 23 at 9 a.m.

Finish out hurricane season by preparing with the Íæż½ã½ã Center for Resiliency Smartstorm disaster training and receive a backpack complete with emergency supplies to assist you and your family in the event of a disaster. Bring your participation verification to the Signature Center suites located in the Cherry Engineering Building on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
