Íæż½ã½ã celebrated a new partnership with Lone Star College with an official ribbon cutting Tuesday, April 10 at the Lone Star College-University Center in The Woodlands.

The afternoon event drew a crowd of supporters from Íæż½ã½ã, Lone Star College and The Woodlands community to the atrium of the University Center where they heard remarks before the official ribbon cutting.

The new partnership will enable Íæż½ã½ã to better meet the needs of students in the greater Houston area through innovative 2+2 programs.  Íæż½ã½ã will have staff member at the University Center who will be able to advise students on courses to take to prepare for continuation toward a bachelor’s degree or beyond.

With more than 100,000 students, the Lone Star College System presents a significant market for students who can benefit from 2+2 programs. Íæż½ã½ã has joined with Lone Star College to offer 2+2s that put students on track to attain their educational goals, even when geographic restrictions exist. Students can complete an associate degree through Lone Star College and then complete an entirely distance-based bachelor's degree through Íæż½ã½ã.

The LSC-University Centers offer junior, senior and graduate level classes through partnerships with several universities. Students who enroll with one of its partner universities at either The Woodlands or University Park locations are able to complete a bachelor's or master's degree (or teaching certificate) without traveling to the university campuses.

Steve Head, chancellor of the Lone Star College System, holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from Íæż½ã½ã. In his remarks, Head praised the university for its role in his professional life and remarked that it would prove an excellent option for many Lone Star College students through the new program.

“Íæż½ã½ã has a proven track record,” said Alton Smith, assistant secretary of the Lone Star College Board of Trustees. “We look forward to this relationship. We know this relationship will bring us the kind of talent we need in the future."

“We, like Lone Star, pull a tremendous number of first generation students,” said Íæż½ã½ã President Ken Evans. “We are a marked opportunity for those seeking a degree in engineering, pre-med or any of the hundred some odd majors that we have at Íæż½ã½ã. We’re pleased about this partnership.”

A number of Lone Star College trustees and Íæż½ã½ã representatives joined Chancellor Head and President Evans in cutting the ribbon formally announcing the new partnership.
