On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of Íæż½ã½ã (Íæż½ã½ã), I welcome your interest in the College of Engineering at Íæż½ã½ã.
The College has five academic departments: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees are offered in each of the five departments. As dean of the College of Engineering, I am excited to work with our great faculty, staff and students as we move together into a new era of growth, prosperity and industry partnerships. We currently have 46 full-time faculty members, 1,255 undergraduate students, 325 masters’ students and 67 doctoral students. Íæż½ã½ã’s College of Engineering is the place for students, faculty, and staff that are driven to make a difference in society. College of Engineering students have numerous employment opportunities during and after graduation through our co-op and internship program and we consistently see high demand for our highly trained, job-ready graduates. The job market for our graduates has never been better over my near 22 years at Íæż½ã½ã. The college remains steadfast in our commitment to our students to provide a state leading return on the educational investment and to assist them in their employment.
All of our 15 master's degree options now offer 4+1 pathways, and we are offering six new certificates that students can take as part of their degree program or as a standalone certificate for nondegree seeking students. Find more information about 4+1s and certificates.
One of our trademarks is the high return on investment of our engineering education. Payscale.com ranked Íæż½ã½ã 3rd nationwide and 1st in the State of Texas for return on investment for engineering majors in 2021.
Our faculty members continually strive for professional excellence as demonstrated by:
Our research expenditures average $2.5 million a year. Many of our projects are associated with our five research centers. Research funding sources include the National Science Foundation, the National Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine, the State of Texas, ports and marine terminals, and engineering and manufacturing companies in the Southeast Texas area. Our Office of Outreach and Student Services assists the community by providing outreach and enrichment opportunities. Each year the college hosts 7th-11th grade students through our Lamar Introduction to Engineering, Project Engineer summer programs, and Lamar Engineering Bootcamp. Participants get the opportunity to engage in fun and exciting experiments while being introduced to the different fields of engineering. At Íæż½ã½ã, we offer the opportunities and attention of a private university, at the expense of a public institution. Our motto is "Imagine it. Design it. Build it. Improve it." We invite you to come join our programs and take the first steps to achieving your career dreams and aspirations. We have several exciting new and very significant initiatives on the horizon, so please check the college website frequently, contact us, or stop by Cherry Engineering Building, Room 2000.
With Cardinal Pride,
Brian Craig, Ph.D., PE, CPE Dean, College of Engineering
